Check your face.

Me to a friend I've known well since 1989: People seem to take what I post on Facebook out of context.
Friend: Yeah well, it's Facebook.
Me: ??
Friend: Facebook is weird. It's all out of context. You can't get to know anyone on Facebook. Stick with friends you know/have known *well* off Facebook.
Me: Yes. Okay. They tend to think I'm either snobby and very critical or very effusive and trying to look for favors.
Friend: You're enthusiastic and you mean well. And you're critical. Sometimes you're clumsy and say things you probably shouldn't.
Me: Yep. Well ... I've been like that since I was a kid. I get very excited by people and ideas and am very expressive. And I can be expressive when I'm critical too, though I try to be fair and reserve judgment. I think I am fair, mostly, ultimately. People get confused.
Friend: Well, you're a good person and you mean well. But sometimes you miss social cues.
Me: Thank you and yes I do miss social cues sometimes.
Friend: And you can be ... tenacious.
Me: Well, yes, especially when I'm unemployed and depressed.
Friend: Yes.

Phew, I needed that.
